CCDP Executive committee Meeting – September 7, 2023

  • 3 min read
Happy Labor Day from the Cleveland County Democratic Party of North Carolina

Hello, Cleveland County Dems and all you other fine folks who care enough to take the time to read this message!

We hope you’re having a wonderful Labor Day weekend. And while you’re at it, tip your hats (figuratively or literally) to the labor unions who, long before any of us were alive, started pushing for this national holiday and for recognition of the contributions of workers.

All registered Dems and other like-minded folks are invited to attend. You do not have to be an executive committee member.

As you already know if you have attended our recent meetings or those of the Democratic Women of Cleveland County, or if you check our Events page or any of our social media channels, we have a monthly meeting coming up this Thursday, September 7. This month, we have two guest speakers lined up for you: NC two-term Representative Vernetta Alston (also an attorney and a member of the House Caucus Committee) and the much-appreciated Cleveland County Director of Elections, Clifton Philbeck.

"Have You Herd" about the September 7 CCDP meeting?

The primary, but not sole, topics of discussion will be changes to NC voter law, including the new Photo Voter ID requirement, and recruiting Democratic candidates for the 2024 election. You may also enjoy hearing more about what our Democratic House members are doing to combat or at least postpone the Republican shenanigans. Both of our special guests will take questions from the audience.

We have some other good news for you too: our active membership is expanding. Woohoo! But that also means we have outgrown some of the places where we once met. Between that good problem, the 90-degree weather, and several locations already being booked for this month’s meeting time, we have decided to meet this month in the party room of the Golden Corral at 1712 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby. This room will seat approximately 70 people.

Please arrive at 5:30 to get your food and be seated. (You don’t have to eat, but we need an accurate head count that evening of anyone who doesn’t eat.) The meeting will officially begin at 6:00 p.m. Here’s the pricing for the Golden Corral buffet (beverage may be extra):

AdultsSeniors (60+)Teens (13-14)Kids (9-12)Kids (4-8)Kids (3 and under)
$15.99$14.99$12.49$8.48$7.49Free (limit 2 w/each paying adult)

In case this might be helpful, if you’re interested in saving a little money and earning rewards, you can sign up for the Golden Corral Rewards program by clicking this link and following the instructions there: https://www.goldencorral.com/rewards/. Consider joining the Good as Gold Club too. Golden Corral is currently offering $5 Off Your Next Purchase of $25 or More just for signing up for their rewards program. Of course, there are some stipulations but nothing unexpected or out of the ordinary.

Can we count on you to join us Thursday evening for some lively conversation and fellowship?

Please reply to this email and help us get an idea of how many of you plan to attend. But whether you reply or not, please show up. We have other topics on the agenda to discuss with you too.

We’re excited to see you again and look forward to Thursday!
